Ready to “get regular?” If you suffer from constipation or a sluggish elimination system – despite eating a high fiber diet and drinking plenty of water – this spinach and apple juice combo could be your new favorite juice blend.

Spinach Juice for Constipation

Spinach juice is special. According to Dr. Norman Walker in his book Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Juices, spinach juice is beneficial for the cleansing, reconstruction and regeneration of the entire digestive tract. Raw spinach juice has been known to resolve the most aggravated cases of constipation within days or a few weeks.

While laxatives and purgatives can help bring some immediate relief, they don’t resolve the underlying causes of constipation. Over reliance on these elimination aids results in a bowel that no longer “remembers” how to function. With time, more and more stimulation is needed to get the muscles in the bowels to do their job.

The organic oxalic acid in spinach juice stimulates the natural peristalsis of the bowel. These involuntary wave-like contractions of the longitudinal and circular muscles of your small and large intestines is what moves waste along to the exit. Spinach juice helps tone the nerves and bowel muscles, naturally stimulating peristaltic action.

Apple Juice Helps Soften Stools

Adding freshly pressed apple juice to your spinach juice does more than make it taste good. Apple juice contains pectin, a soluble fiber that helps promote healthy bowel movements.

Apple juice also contains sorbitol, which helps pull water into the colon to soften stools and make them easier to pass.

If you are concerned about the sugar in fresh apple juice, you’ll be happy to learn that the glycemic index of fresh, cloudy apple juice (the kind you get from your juicer) is about the same as that of a whole apple.

There are so many health benefits of spinach juice and apple juice beyond bowel health. This simple two-ingredient juice blend is a delicious, healthy addition to just about anyone’s diet.

Note: If you are on a blood thinner, spinach juice is high in vitamin K. Consult your doctor for assistance to adjust your medication to match your daily vitamin K consumption from dark leafy greens like spinach.

The Regulator

Suggested: 8-16 oz. morning and evening

The Regulator - Spinach Apple Juice for Constipation

Large tub baby spinach (10-16 oz)
2 apples (per 16 oz juice)

When it comes to leafy greens, yields vary widely depending on the type of juicer used. If you are making enough juice to consume this blend morning and evening for several days or more, buy a large tub of prewashed organic baby spinach and several organic red or green apples. Juice the spinach and apples, aiming for about a 50/50 ratio of spinach juice and apple juice. Add some lemon juice if desired.
